Students will need to learn scales, read rhythms and music notes to be able to play many songs. Students may start by reading the information posted on MusicTechTeacher.com to get them started. (LINK)

Some of the songs that we might play during the year are from the following books:

    Tradition of Excellence (Kjos Publishing)
    Yamaha Performance Folio (Alfred Publishing)
    First Performance (Kjos Publishing)
    Festival Ensembles (Kjos Publishing)

In the past, students have had favorites for performances such as Lean On Me, We Shall Overcome, I'll Be There, Martin Luther King March and many others. We have also performed Lift Ev'ry Voice, Kwanzaa - Kwanzaa, Rio Bravo, Shades of Blue, African Folk Trilogy, Coldwater Creek, Flight of the Banshee, Windsor Overture, The Maya Kingdom, The Tempest and other songs for performances. Christmas performances have included the band and keyboard students playing Carol of the Bells, Jingle Bells, Jolly Old Saint Nicholas, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Do You Hear What I Hear and more.

Students will learn how to use the Kjos IPS (Interactive Practice System) with their music books as we begin having band rehearsals.
